The Science Behind Happiness
Wonder if there’s any secret to happiness? Check out a recent article titled “Monks, Not McMansions, May Hold the Key to Happiness” - found via Greg Mankiw’s blog. It covers research done in this area by University of Chicago economists Luis Rayo and Gary Becker. The root of un-happiness:
“Much of what we call ‘happiness’ is relative and based on comparison. We are always comparing what we have to something else. But, we’re not anticipating that no matter what we have we will always be comparing it to something else. In fact, we’re not even aware that we are doing this.”
And the (simple) solution: A modest lifestyle !!
