Nifty-50 Monthly Performance

It’s been a while since I last looked at the monthly performance of the S&P CNX Nifty-50 index. Here’s an updated table:

As seen above, last year was atypical - March was strong whereas it’s historically a weak month, while December was weak. This has been true of 2007 as well, since February - a typically strong month - saw a drop of 9.5% in the Nifty-50 index. Note that May has the widest range of outcomes (-16% to +16%) - let’s see how this year turns out.
