Taylortree: On trading & system development

Mike Taylor of the Taylortree blog doesn’t post that often, but when he does, its worth a read. His latest post talks about how the markets can be frustrating, and that a “long-term” perspective is probably the best for most of us.

He has also developed his own trading system, and offers good suggestions if you plan to do the same:

  • Important to test your ideas with & without cash constraints.
  • . . . tried everything from PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, BDM, SQL Server, KirbyBase, and many more. Nothing and I mean nothing even comes close to plain vanilla CSV files.
  • Python is much faster than Ruby when it comes to processing CSV files and not much slower than C.

Any system traders out there with similar experiences?
