Sauve qui peut
I came across this phrase - ’sauve qui peut‘ - while trying to read Charles Kindleberger’s book: Manias, Panics, and Crashes: A History of Financial Crises. Both the book & the phrase are very relevant to what happened last week.
sauve qui peut (sōv kē pö′)
noun
a frantic rush to escape
Etymology: Fr, (let him) save (himself) who can, every man for himeself
I say ‘trying to’ because while the book is certainly a comprehensive account of past bubbles, it is not very easy to read. Maybe that’s just me. Thankfully, the Economist put out an article Of manias, panics and crashes which is somewhat of a summary.
